How does a microlight maiden flight at Herlies work?
You have booked your microlight maiden flight at Aliz’Air in Herlies and you’re wondering what your day will look like? Here is the complete rundown, from your arrival to landing.
Step 1: Arrival at the Herlies microlight base
You arrive at the Herlies Microlight Base (Route d’Aubers, 59134 Herlies), 25 minutes from Lille via the A25. The site has free parking. Your instructor greets you and introduces you to the microlight: how it works, its controls, its technical characteristics.
Step 2: Safety briefing
Before each flight, a comprehensive safety briefing is conducted: equipment (helmet, intercom), in-flight instructions, areas overflown, emergency procedures. You are ready in just a few minutes.
Step 3: Take-off
You take your seat in the two-seater, secured by a 4-point harness. The instructor carries out the pre-flight checks, then you take off from the grass runway at Herlies. The climb is smooth and gradual.
Step 4: Flight over the Weppes plain
Within a few minutes you reach your cruising altitude. Beneath you stretches the Weppes plain, the theatre of the Great War, with the Monts de Flandres in the background. You fly over Illies, La Bassée, Aubers, Fromelles and their surroundings. The view is spectacular.
Depending on your package, you can take the controls! With the Introductory Flight, the instructor explains the basics of piloting and lets you steer the microlight safely.
Step 5: Landing and debrief
The landing is gentle. Your instructor explains what you flew over and answers all your questions. It is often at this point that future pilots are born!
